MHM: Chris Brown featuring Justin Bieber: ‘Ladies Love Me’

Chris Brown is all about the big name collaborations these days: recently, he’s teamed up with Benny BenassiLil Wayne, Busta Rhymes, and Twista. In keeping with this theme, Chris has teamed up with  current king of teen pop, Justin Bieber, on new single Ladies Love Me, a followup to their recent collaboration Next to You.

Premiered on Youtube last week, the single features both Chris and Bieber rapping, and features some sample lyrics from  previous single Look At Me Now, in which Chris teamed up with Weezy and Busta. Surprisingly, Bieber isn’t actually too bad at rapping. Still a controversial choice, not quite in keeping with Chris Brown’s more mature image.

HOUSE OF SASSI rates ‘Ladies Love Me’ at: 3/5

Love is A Losing Game: Amy Winehouse (1983-2011)

Like many fans around the world, HOUSE OF SASSI was sad to hear of the passing of  the extremely talented Amy Winehouse who tragically died at the weekend, aged just 27.

Amy was well-known for her troubled personal life (mostly for her battle with drugs and alcohol), but that didn’t stop her from hitting the UK music scene with a bang. In 2003, the release of her first album, Frank, led to an Ivor Novello award and several BRIT nominations. The album put Amy on the music map with songs including ‘Stronger Than Me’, which gained her a huge fan base.

Amy’s second album, Back to Black, is most famous for its controversial lead single ‘Rehab’. The album contained several songs with a much more personal vibe than Frank. Amy’s amazing talent as a singer/songwriter shone through on her second album, winning her five Grammys and tie-ing her with Beyonce, Lauryn Hill, and Alicia Keys, for the second largest number of awards won by a female artist in a single ceremony. Fans loved the singles ‘Back to Black’, ‘Love is a Losing Game’, and ‘You Know I’m No Good’.

Amy’s unique voice, her soul/jazz-influenced music, and that trademark beehive (not to mention her colourful private life) made her a household name in the UK and beyond. Found at her home in Camden on July 23rd, Amy’s tragic death  enrols her in the iconic ’27 Club’-musicians and stars who died before or at the age of 27, and whose members include Kurt Cobain, Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin.

The music of Amy Winehouse will live on for its uniqueness, frank honesty, and showcasing of a genuine talent. HOUSE OF SASSI will always love Amy’s hugely popular version of The Zutons’ ‘Valerie’, with Mark Ronson. RIP Amy, the UK music scene won’t be the same without you.

Young Gun Ed Sheeran Releases New Single

Let the countdown to the album launch begin….

Suffolk-born singer/songwriter Ed Sheeran’s new single ‘Young Guns’ was released on iTunes yesterday along with the opportunity for fans to pre-order his debut album. The eagerly awaited single is a collaboration with Yasmin, Lewi White, Griminal and Devlin.

Everyone at HOUSE OF SASSI is excited for the release of Ed’s album on September 12th, which people are already pre-ordering, highlighting the huge success Ed has enjoyed in recent months. His debut single ‘The A Team’ peaked at No.3 in the charts, and he has a huge list of upcoming tour and festival dates throughout the summer. Add that to a huge fan base dating back to his days as a YouTube phenomenon, and it seems that Ed’s music is really receiving the recognition it deserves.

Ed has already rocked several of the summer’s most talked about festivals, including Glastonbury, Beach Break Live, and most recently the iTunes festival, with a headline set at Latitude in Southwold later this month. Don’t worry if you’ve missed out on festival tickets, as Ed will continue to tour the UK this summer with gigs lined up all over the country in between festival appearances.

For anyone not familiar with Ed’s music, HOUSE OF SASSI recommends that you watch his YouTube acoustic sessions, filmed by SBTV, the top broadcaster for new music.  Ed’s music is a mix of acoustic folk, soul, hip hop and indie, and most songs include a freestyle rap, or a mashup (check out his own song, Wake Me Up, which he mixes with Gyptian’s Hold Yuh).

Last week, Ed’s album cover was unveiled, a pastel drawing of the singer by London based artist Philip Butah. If you’re unable to wait for the album’s release, several of Ed’s EPs, including ‘One Take’ and ‘Loose Change’, which contains ‘The A Team’ are available on iTunes. In the meantime we suggest that music lovers should check out Ed’s Youtube videos, including his fantastic SBTV performance of ‘You Need Me’.

Have a listen, and tell us what you think!

MHM: Bluey Robinson Takes On the iTunes Festival as ‘Showgirl’ Popularity Grows

Music Hit or Miss”

Bluey Robinson’s debut single ‘Showgirl’ has been out for just over a month but already the London-based singer/songwriter is in high demand, and set to take his music even further as he gears up to play the iTunes Festival on Sunday 17th July.

Bluey already has an enormous fan base thanks to his Youtube videos, several of which show him performing acoustic street sessions all over London and Paris. The video for ‘Showgirl’, co-starring Made in Chelsea‘s Funda Onal, currently holds over 240,000 hits. With so much attention on Bluey and his music, it is clear that his performance at the iTunes Festival will be very well received.

HOUSE OF SASSI have rated Bluey’s acoustic street performance of  ‘Showgirl’ : RATING 5/5

MHM – Lady Gaga: ‘Edge of Glory’

Music Hit or Miss”

Lady Gaga headlined Radio One’s Big Weekend yesterday and wowed the 20,000 strong crowd with an imaginative set of her biggest hits and even a country number that was dedicated to Prince William and Catherine.

But the best number she did was her new song, Edge of Glory which Gaga dedicated to her Grandfather and performed whist playing the piano. Emotions got to the better of her though as she was sobbing by the end but the crowd didn’t mind.

Sassi PR have rated ‘Edge of Glory’ : RATING 5/5

MHM – Frank Ocean: ‘Swim Good’

Music Hit or Miss”

Frank Ocean’s mix tape dropped earlier this year to critical acclaim with Rolling Stone’s Jonah Weiner calling him “a gifted avant-R&B smoothie”. The New Orleans boy was evacuated in 2005 during hurricane Katrina and moved to Los Angeles where he stayed and joined a collective group called Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All.

With the release of his solo work though it seems that Ocean is going from strength to strength.

Sassi PR have rated ‘Swim Good’ : RATING 5/5

MHM – Beyoncé: ‘Run The World (Girls)’

Music Hit or Miss”

Beyoncé is back to defend her title as the Queen of RnB but what does everyone have to say with Rihanna dominating the charts? Sadly unlike Rihanna, Beyoncé appears to be receiving very mixed reactions to her new song ‘Run The World (Girls)’… some good and some bad.

With her aggressive tone Beyoncé is not shy about the fact that she is an advocate for Female Empowerment.  This is the first single of the yet to be named new album by Beyoncé, but until we see the video we are not convinced that this really is the start of the ‘B Revolution’ that we were promised.

Run The World will be a massive hit, but we just feel its lacking that Beyoncé touch that makes her music so good!

Sassi PR have rated ‘Run The World (Girls)’ : RATING 3/5
