The Golden Globes 2011 Best Dressed

If you are like us then you will be very tired this morning, we stayed up past 3am watching the Golden Globes, but the sleep deprivation we have to endure today was so totally worth it.  This was the 68th Golden Globes and a big congratulation goes to all the winners, especially our fellow Brit, Colin Firth, for his role in the King’s Speech, which oddly enough another Sassi PR team member watched yesterday.  The Social Network was a big winner as well as Glee, who won three awards.

But what excited us more than the intense competition inside was the competition of who will come out triumphant as part of the Best Dressed list.  We have put a few pictures up to show you our favourites, starting with the beautiful Angelina Jolie, who sparkled in a green full length Atelier Versace dress, she was joined at the event by her partner Brad Pitt. Anne Hathaway shied in a nude backless Armani Privé dress, she has also just been confirmed for a role in Glee, I wonder if she can sing?  A chocolate coloured sparkly Marchesa ‘princess’ gown was the choice of actress Olivia Wilde, she looks absolutely stunning and every bit the princess that she is.  Catherine Zeta Jones made everyone else green with envy as she stepped out in emerald Monique Lhuiller, she was joined by her husband Michael Douglas, who joked as he took to the stage to present an award, “There has to be an easier way of getting a standing ovation”.  Finally major credit has to be given to the kooky actress Helena Bonham Carter, who broke every red carpet fashion rule by turning up in mismatching shoes, one red and one green, the dress on the other hand was a plunging multi-coloured Vivienne Westwood dress.

Let us know who was your favourite?

Spotlight on… Christopher Kane

We are totally excited by top fashion designer, and “Eastend Neighbour” Christopher Kane who’s offices are also based in good ‘ol Dalston.

Christopher will be showcasing his Autumn/Winter range at London Fashion Week, on the 21st Feburary at midday.

Last year Christopher’s fabulous neon inspired catwalk show made us reach back inside our wardrobe for that forgotten about lime green summer dress ready for when the weather warms up.

Other features on his catwalk included mixing bright Orange and Pink in a jacket and skirt combo and many different print styles which could of been inspired by the SassiPR branding……  maybe Christopher took his creative direction from our sassy ‘S’ logo.

Our Eastend neighbour has an impressive CV, he studied at Central Saint Martins for 6 years whilst interning at Giles Deacon and Russell Sage.  After graduating Christopher immediately started his own label, only to then become best friends with Donatella Versace who he worked with to recreate the ‘Versus’ line.  Everything he has done appears to have turned to gold.

Alexa Chung did a great interview with Christopher in this month’s issue of Vogue.  Clearly, from the article we’re not the only ones who are fans of Christopher, did you know he designed the outfit for Kylie Minogue in the music video for ‘2 hearts’?

We think Christopher Kane will be a household name by the end of 2011. We will have to get intouch with him to see if he would like to join us for lunch one day at our local Turkish pancake house… yummy!

Who are you looking out for at London Fashion Week?

Small Fashion Brands & Very Big Names

Over the years we have seen a continuing trend in the amount of celebrities that have, and are endorsing fashion brands.  Quite obvious to us, it is in the interest of the fashion brand to get these celebrities on board but what if you’re a brand that can’t afford to pay a celebrity £3 million to showcase your collection?

Most recently we saw that Lara Stone is doing another season with Calvin Klein and Missoni has released their first spring ad campaign featuring Leighton Meester .  Both ladies we think are looking stunning and drawing all eyes to their chosen campaigns.

Probably one of the most famous endorsements was when supermodel Kate Moss and Topshop joined forces to create and design a clothing range, which we shamelessly stood in queue for.  In late 2010 the incredibly successful agreement came to an end, after Kate’s 14th season and her estimated earnings of £3 million from this project alone.  But even more astounding is David Beckham’s deal with Giorgio Armani, he was paid a reportedly staggering £20 million but it worked, sales of Armani boxers exceeded expectation and lucky for us, Beckham stayed on to do another season of promotional ads.

The main reason companies and fashion brands take on a famous name is ultimately the exposure and publicity that comes with the celebrity.  Sometimes this can have adverse effects as when the star does something that is perceived as wrong in the public eye, they would be likely to lose their contract.  Fashion line, Jill Stuart, had to drop Lindsay Lohan due to her excessive drug abuse, arrests and stints in rehab, as who would want to be associated with that, we certainly wouldn’t.

So what if you are a small fashion brand, you cannot just sit around and hope that someone in the public eye will wear something from your collection.  Even if you try to ‘gift’ a celebrity with the items, they may just end up giving the item away.

It is important to make sure you gift the correct celebrit, for example, a neon clothing range company should target The Saturdays or Alexandra Burke rather than Emma Bunton or Holly Willoughby.  Hopefully the celebrity will wear the outfit or piece, they may even get photographed.  If they really love it, they might even tell their friends about it and spread the news about your brand. They may even make an announcement on Twitter or Facebook!

It is possible to get celebrities and famous names for smaller fashion brands…  Yes!  We at SassiPR use our experience, contacts and good public relations to make it all possible.

Kim Kardashian starts 2011 with a new career.

We all like to make big decisions concerning our life when it comes round to a new year, and the most famous Kardashian child has made the giant step into the music world. She treated revellers to the first public play of her, still unnamed song, which was worked on by music legend The Dream. The Dream has co-produced Umbrella for Rihanna and Single Ladies for Beyoncé, and co written Touch My Body for Mariah Carey, and High Price for Ciara. She was also seen leaving a recording Studio with the huge Kanye West, so we can definitely say she is in safe hands.

From the recording, you cannot get that much of the ability of her vocals, but its sounds very much like an early Jennifer Lopez, think Play or I’m Real.  Could this set the American Billboard charts or the UK Top 40 Chart on fire, well everything else Kim has touched has turned straight to gold. In fact she is America’s top earning realityTV star, with estimated earnings for 2010 standing at $6 million. Not bad for a girl who broke into the public eye because of a sex tape.

We found the recording on Youtube and instantly had to have a listen. MTV News reports it was taken from a New Years Eve bash at a Las Vegas club called TAO and as you can hear, our Kim introduces the song before the DJ hits PLAY!

“I didn’t mean to, but I did this song with The-Dream, and it’s really fun! I hope you guys like it!” and they certainly did, with MTV News reporting from one fan,

“Oh my god! [The response was] huge,” the source said. “People wanted an encore and the DJ only played it once, but they wanted to hear it again. She was singing along and dancing with it. She wasn’t singing over a track, she wasn’t performing for the guests.”

Some of the footage from this non-performance is apparently going to be used within the video reported MTV news. The video is believed to have already been shot. With Kim tweeting two pictures of herself from the shoot. One where she appears to be rocking some corn rows and the other looking much more glamorous and sassy with oversized sunglasses.

Now we are unsure as whether this will be a success or not, but we are most certainly looking forward to hearing and seeing the end product, and it can’t be worse than her one time best friend turned frienemy Paris Hiltons musical offering of ‘Stars are Blind’,………. can it?
