Wedge with an Edge

This year we’ve been opened to a whole new world of possibility where wedges are concerned and we’re loving it.

We’ve never really been a fan of wedges we’ve always seen them as a summer shoe only suitable to wear with hot-pants or a sundress.  We were particularly turned off by the frequent use of cork and wooden heels which just looked bulky.

Finally, the high street has offered a new generation of edgier, sexier shoes that can be worn come rain or shine with a wide variety of clothing options and when shopping on a budget what more can one ask for.  One of our favourites have been the wedged shoe-boots and the open toe sandals with thick straps and buckle details.

For the luxury market the most exciting offering has come from, Helen FurberCordwainers Footwear graduate from the London College of Fashion. Her vision was a sustainable and technology-focused design that would redefine the footwear product lifecycle without compromising aesthetics. The result ‘Icica’ is an awe inspiring modular triumph that effortlessly brings together nature and technology to create a beautiful wedge heel shoe. Comprised of organic leather uppers and bioresin sole units the shoe can be separated into layers that are recyclable or biodegradable. This product succeeds where other eco-fashion attempts have failed by wedging the gap between beauty and function.
